Heat the oil over medium-high heat using a dutch oven, skillet or non-stick pan. Add chopped onion and cook 4 - 5 minutes, until translucent. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
Add the ground beef and cook for 7 - 10 minutes, breaking apart as you cook. The ground beef should be browned. Drain off any excess grease.
Add the remaining ingredients, stirring to combine, and reduce to low. Cover the pan and let it simmer for 1-1/2 to 2 hours, until desire thickness.
