Aunt Anne's Spaghetti Sauce

For as long as I can remember, this has been my favorite spaghetti sauce recipe.  Not only is it fairly easy to make, but it has a wonderful, rich flavor that I think you will love!

Ingredients
  

Spaghetti Sauce
  • 2 28 oz cans whole tomatoes with juice
  • 2 12 oz cans tomato paste
  • 6 garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp sweet basil
  • 1 tsp sweet basil (in addition to tbsp)
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper
  • 3/4 cup sugar
Meatballs
  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 lbs sweet italian sausage
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup dried bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp sweet basil

Method
 

Preparing the Spaghetti Sauce
  1. Combine the entire contents of 1 can of the whole tomatoes and 1 can of the tomato paste, along with all spices in a blender. 
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. Pour into a pot.
  4. Blend another can of the whole tomatoes and paste, and pour into the pot.
  5. Bring contents of the pot to a boil.
  6. Reduce heat and allow to simmer for 2 hours, stirring often.
  7. If consistency appears to be too thick, you can add water.
Preparing the Meatballs
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Thoroughly mix all ingredients by hand.
  3. Form into golf-ball sized portions.
  4. Place meatballs onto a baking sheet and cook for approximately 20 minutes. (Check to see if cooked throughout)
