Aunt Anne's Spaghetti Sauce

For as long as I can remember, this has been my favorite spaghetti sauce recipe.  Not only is it fairly easy to make, but it has a wonderful, rich flavor that I think you will love!

Ingredients
  

Spaghetti Sauce

  • 2 28 oz cans whole tomatoes with juice
  • 2 12 oz cans tomato paste
  • 6 garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp sweet basil
  • 1 tsp sweet basil (in addition to tbsp)
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper
  • 3/4 cup sugar

Meatballs

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 lbs sweet italian sausage
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup dried bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp sweet basil

Instructions
 

Preparing the Spaghetti Sauce

  • Combine the entire contents of 1 can of the whole tomatoes and 1 can of the tomato paste, along with all spices in a blender. 
  • Blend until smooth.
  • Pour into a pot.
  • Blend another can of the whole tomatoes and paste, and pour into the pot.
  • Bring contents of the pot to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and allow to simmer for 2 hours, stirring often.
  • If consistency appears to be too thick, you can add water.

Preparing the Meatballs

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Thoroughly mix all ingredients by hand.
  • Form into golf-ball sized portions.
  • Place meatballs onto a baking sheet and cook for approximately 20 minutes. (Check to see if cooked throughout)
