Southern Cream Cookies
This holiday favorite was inspired by the Better Homes and Gardens New CookBook, copyrighted in 1953. The recipe will make 6 dozen cookies.

Ingredients
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 3 eggs (well beaten)
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup sour cream
- 5 cups flour (sifted)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 1/2 cups walnuts, broken into pieces
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 3 tsp baking powder
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°
- Add shortening and 2 cups sugar to mixing bowl and cream
- Add sour cream, eggs and vanilla to bowl and mix well
- In separate bowl, sift together the flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda
- Add sifted mixture to wet ingredients and mix well
- Add nuts
- Drop on to baking sheet from a teaspoon
- Grease bottom of a small glass then dip into a mixture of cinnamon and sugar
- Using the coated glass, press each cookie flat, dipping into cinnamon-sugar mix before flattening
- Bake at 350 for 15 minuntes
